Non Game Situations
These situations are very important even though they may not affect the game in any way.
1. How do referees get assignments from SABO?
• Each week an e-mail is sent (normally on Friday) asking all referees for availability during the next week to which referees who want assignments need to reply.
• Then assignments are e-mailed to referees, by Monday or Tuesday at the latest, asking for their confirmation that they will/can do the assigned games.
• Referees need to reply ASAP indicating whether they will or will not accept the games that have been assigned. If there is no reply from a referee in a reasonable amount of time (usually 1 day), the games may be reassigned. A referee may accept all, some or none of the games.
• Referees who have accepted games during the week will be sent a reminder e-mail the night before the games. Referees do not have to respond to that e-mail unless there is a mistake.
• Referees who have a “Pay on Site” game will be copied on the e-mail, sent to the school officials, showing what each referee should be paid. Again referees do not have to respond to that e-mail unless there is a mistake.
• Each Wednesday the website that shows the weekend schedule is made available for viewing. The weekend schedule shows all the games to be played on Saturday and Sunday with the times of the games, the gyms where the games will take place, the amount each game will pay as well as the referees for the games.
• The referee’s code may be in uppercase letters indicating that the referee has confirmed that they will do the games. The referee’s code may be in lowercase letters, indicating that the games have been assigned but not yet confirmed by the referee. A referee’s code box may be blank indicating that the games have not been assigned.
• Upon viewing the weekend schedule, referees may call and offer to do games that have
2. What do I do if my partner is late.Call the booking agent as soon as you realize that your partner is not there. Ask one of the referees to stay and start the game until your partner arrives. When your partner arrives, call the booking agent so he will not send a 3rd partner to the gym. Back to Top3. Do I get paid double if I have to referee by myself?Regretfully NO! The leagues only pay for referees who are physically at the game. So you need to get in touch with your booking agent as soon as you know your partner is late. Back to Top4. What if I realize that I am going to be late to the game?Call the booking agent and let him know. He will be able to call your partner and relay that information or at least give them that information when they call about your absence. Back to Top5. What if 3 referees or more show up at your gym?Probably one or more of the referees has gone to the wrong gym and that means that there is a gym or gyms with less than 2 officials. Find out the names of the other referees and call the booking secretary immediately. Tell him the names of the referees at your gym and he will tell you where each referee should be - DO NOT GO HOME before you hear from the booking agent. Back to Top6. What if I have a problem regarding games and call the booking secretary only to get his voice mail?DO NOT leave a voice mail for the booking secretary to just call you. Leave a message that includes your name, the gym and nature of the problem and then leave a telephone number (slowly) that he can call and get you or someone else at the gym. Back to Top |
